Expect a lot of large groups and families on this ship, but you won’t feel crowded either. Whether that’s in the things you can do on-board, the variety of food options, the live performances and the interesting itineraries around the Mexican Riviera, Carnival Panorama is loved by many. By taking an average of the scores across all three sites, I’ve been able to get the ships into a relative order. After all, I’ve been on a lot of cruises, but I’ve not sailed on every Carnival ship. So for me to base it just on my gut opinion would hardly be fair, or very interesting either. There are some treasured favourites and newer ships that are still really good but don’t quite have the same magic.
Is Carnival Miracle a good ship to cruise on?
In fact, Carnival is one of the biggest employers for comedians in the world! You can attend daily shows - some meant for adults and others for all ages with family-friendly content. There’s always something happening on a Carnival cruise ship, whether you are hitting the casino, attending a Production Playlist show, singing tunes at karaoke, or visiting the comedy club each night. You’ll find plenty of things to keep you busy when it comes to entertainment.

Carnival Horizon should be praised for its onboard technologies and amazing features, but it is missing some of the really exciting features that would debut on the Excel Class not long after. This is good, because her downsides tend to be West Coast US itineraries that are a little less exciting than those in other destinations. Choose Carnival Miracle if you want a bit of fun, a bit of relaxation, and some decent food. She has some design quirks, including some areas being a trek to get to, but she has a ton of unique charm.
Cruise Ship
Throughout our cruise, the casino hosted organized poker tournaments, raffles and other ways to test Lady Luck. The pan-Asian menu features dishes from Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, China and Mongolia served family style. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, sweet and sour shrimp, and the Chinese broccoli. We closed out our dinner with the rose creme brulee with ginger cream and caramelized crepes served with citrus ice cream. Another perk of an aft cabin was the size of the balcony — a bit larger than regular balconies in other Carnival cabins I've stayed in.
We really enjoyed the sizeable adults-only Serenity deck that now has its own pool. If you want a more exclusive experience, you can get a pass to the LOFT 19 area that includes padded loungers and access to the infinity whirlpool and attentive servers. On embarkation day, we boarded the new Carnival Celebration at Carnival Cruise Line’s newly remodeled Terminal F at Port Miami.

The adjacent fitness center is on the small side but features for-fee personal training and organized fitness classes, as well as equipment that's free for passengers to use. Although it's often loud, busy and difficult to navigate, especially on sea days, it's a prime place to sit and people-watch. Live music is also common to find in the evenings onboard your Carnival cruise ship. It’s not unusual to see live bands performing in the onboard lounges and bars. This can make for an enjoyable happy hour with a pre-dinner cocktail.
Onboard Activities
These longer sailings provide a more immersive experience for Carnival guests to learn about new cultures. Because Carnival strives to be the most affordable cruise line, the cruise line’s strategy revolves around guests arriving at the port by car rather than plane. This aligns with the company’s goal to attract budget cruisers. Another unique class on Carnival is its Venice Class, which is home to two ships that were transferred from sister brand Costa Cruises. Both of these vessels have an Italian flair to cruising thanks to Costa’s Italian heritage. The Vista Class for Carnival are notably smaller than Carnival’s newest ships, but they're still pack in tons of fun and things to do.
Fellow Passengers
In general, Carnival’s cruise ships have many versatile lounges that can host anything from comedy shows to trivia and everything in between. One of my favorite aspects of Carnival’s entertainment is the cruise line’s commitment to keeping shows right at 30 minutes. This allows you to spend your evening attending multiple shows or events, or seeing one quick show before calling it a night. I’d argue that the Excel-class ships have the highest quality entertainment shows, some that rival other cruise lines. With acrobatics, cutting-edge technology, singing, and dancing, you’ll certainly enjoy all of the Excel-class entertainment.
Bars
These ships are nearly 40% bigger than anything the cruise line has built before. The only remaining ships from the Fantasy Class include Carnival Elation and Carnival Paradise. Weighing only 70,000 gross tons, these ships are designed to sail with 2,000 passengers. The cruise line kept a similar design across its ship classes, unlike other competitors in the cruise industry.
Carnival also features many specialty dining options that aren’t included in the price of your cruise. These days cruise ships are full of things to do, and Carnival Cruises are no exception. In industry-speak, how easily passengers move about a ship is called “flow”. Carnival Celebration also includes the BOLT roller coaster that was first introduced in 2021 aboard sister-ship Mardi Gras. For a nominal charge ($15 per person on our Eastern Caribbean sailing), you can have the thrills of riding the only roller coaster at sea. In a nod to Carnival’s history, cruisers will find plenty of objects onboard that have come from past ships.
Also new is the Cherry on Top lolly shop, a big outdoor movie screen situated on the Lido Deck and the Alchemy Bar, which is a popular meeting place, where drinkers devise their own cocktails on prescription pads. This major facelift also included new carpets throughout the entire ship, revamped kids clubs and improvements to 300 cabins. One of the defining characteristics of Carnival is its focus on fun and entertainment. The cruise line offers a wide range of onboard activities and amenities, including water parks, sports facilities, casinos, live entertainment, and comedy shows. Carnival's ships are known for their vibrant and colorful designs, which feature themes such as "Fun Ships" and "Carnivalization".
I've enjoyed Latin-themed performances ("Amor Cubano"), British music tributes ("The Brits") and an art-infused journey through music and dance ("Color My World"). Club O2 is for the 15-to-17 set and offers a chance for older teens to hang out together, play sports and games, and interact during group activities. The modern atmosphere extended to Club 02 with a bold red and black pattern on the floor, sleek red chairs and metal accents.
Whether you’re looking for an adventure-packed vacation or just want to relax on the sea, Carnival Cruise Line has something to offer. Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination were put into long-term storage in 2020 with no timeline for return. Carnival Cruise Line currently operates 23 ships, with 3 more coming by the end of 2023. Most staff we encountered were seemingly overworked, unduly burdened and unhappy, with Carnival Celebration’s food service staff appearing unusually affected. However, we found ourselves missing the generous size of Carnival’s bathrooms of the past.
